Crescent sundial
The Crescent Sundial has been made to a very high specification using mirror polished, surgical grade stainless steel, which will glint and glisten in the sun for centuries to come.
The dial comprises an elegant 25cm (10”) diameter crescent that holds the hour band and gnomon and is set onto a stainless steel plate 21.5cm (8.5”) in diameter; this base plate is engraved with a compass rose and the eight cardinal points.
Engraved on the hour band is the quotation: HORA QUASI UMBRA
meaning ‘time is but a shadow’ in Latin.
The time-telling shadow is cast onto the hour band by the gnomon rod, which runs through the centre of the dial and points to the celestial pole. The time is marked from 6am to 6pm and the hours are engraved in Roman numerals, with the half-hours also marked.
The latitude region of the Crescent Sundial is determined by the delivery address. |
